Sustainability is in HTBA’s DNA. Since our beginnings, we have embraced green chemistry technologies and the circular economy to fulfill our mission of providing innovative solutions worldwide for the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, food and beverage, and animal nutrition sectors. Every day, we strive to minimize the environmental impact of our activities.
Staying true to this commitment to the planet’s health, HTBA, in collaboration with Anthesis Group, has launched an innovative initiative to offset our 2024 carbon footprint for scope 1 and 2. Specifically, we have offset a total of 2,455 tons of CO₂ equivalent emissions through two social and environmental projects in China and India.
Both projects are distinguished by combining CO₂ reduction and absorption solutions with social and environmental benefits that improve the quality of life for communities affected by climate change. Furthermore, they represent an opportunity to promote sustainable development in countries that are strategic for HTBA’s growth, where we want to actively contribute to progress.
Household biogas in China
The project implemented in China involved the installation of household kitchen biogas digesters—a system that processes livestock manure and captures the methane generated for cooking. This reduces emissions of this potent greenhouse gas while also lowering the use of fossil fuels or firewood, thus preventing deforestation. Additionally, it improves indoor air quality, positively impacting people’s health, and reduces the time spent collecting firewood for cooking.
Agroforestry project in India
The project in India focused on combining trees and shrubs with crops or livestock to increase biodiversity, improve soil health, boost agricultural productivity, and revitalize farming. Specifically, the initiative enhances CO₂ absorption from the atmosphere by planting trees among farmland plots. This action generates an increase in biomass above and below ground, and promotes socio-economic development, as farmers benefit from higher crop yields, leading to increased agricultural output and income.
HTBA’s commitment: carbon neutrality by 2050
Both projects are aligned with our goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050, as defined in our Climate Change Policy. We know achieving this objective requires time, effort, and a deep transformation of our processes and operations, which is why we continue working on the necessary actions to achieve real and lasting decarbonization.
